On Friday morning, I was a full-time, salaried Web and print designer. The shop I was working for had been hit pretty hard by the economic downturn, going from a team of 6 to a team of 3—the two owners and me—in less than a year. Work had dwindled, and costs remained high. So they let me go.
I'll be continuing to do contract work for them as it comes up, but ultimately I'm on my own. And it's scary. The first thing I thought to do was to redesign my portfolio site as well as a quick update of my resumé. The second thing was to start blogging again. The idea here is to post as often as I can about how I'm working to make this situation better.
If you're wondering what exactly I do: I'm an experienced Web designer who can write standards-compliant, clean, smart HTML & CSS. I'm good with actionscript, javascript, and most other scripts. I'm also a seasoned print designer with a solid understanding of typography, layout and design. I don't have a full-time job anymore, but I've still got hustle.
Stay tuned.
